2007 FORTUNE 500 Nondiscrimination Project

In Fall 2003, Equality Forum in collaboration with the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce contacted the CEOs and HR Directors of FORTUNE 500 companies that did not include "sexual orientation" in their hiring and employment non-discrimination policies. Equality Forum identified 177 companies that did not provide protection or whose status was unknown. Equality Forum provided information and offered assistance.

In Summer 2005, Equality Forum entered into a collaboration with Professor Louis Thomas, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Ian Ayres, William K. Townsend Professor, Yale Law School, to expand the FORTUNE 500 Project.

Project update : Equality Forum researched the 2007 FORTUNE 500 list and contacted companies whose status was noncompliant or unknown. On August 29, Equality Forum issued a press release announcing a record number of compliant companies.
