Equality Forum Celebrates 15th Anniversary at 2007 Symposium

PHILADELPHIA—Equality Forum will present the nation’s largest annual gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender civil rights forum from April 30 to May 6, 2007, with over 60 programs, parties, and special events. Equality Forum 2007, featuring the United Nations, celebrates the 15th anniversary of the organization, which has grown to become a national GLBT organization. Equality Forum also produces documentary films, GLBT History Month in October, and other high-impact educational initiatives.

Kevin Ray, Chair of the Board of Directors, commented, “We are proud to mark Equality Forum’s 15th anniversary. In the span of a decade and a half, the organization has grown from a local celebration to a national organization that highlights and interprets GLBT civil rights issues for both gay and straight audiences.”

At Equality Forum 2007, nearly 70 moderators and panelists, including Andrew Sullivan, Congressman Barney Frank, and Dr. Renée Richards, will discuss topics like GLBT families, politics, religion, and health. In collaboration with the GLBT workplace groups of the United Nations, World Bank, and European Union, the global GBLT civil rights movement will be featured in a number of special programs. Over 60 regional, national, and international organizations have partnered with Equality Forum to present this year’s programming.

Special events include GALA Choruses’ 25th Anniversary Concert, the 3rd annual National Interfaith Service, and the 8th annual art exhibit. At the International Equality Dinner, Martina Navratilova will receive the 12th annual International Role Model Award, and M·A·C Cosmetics will receive the 5th Annual International Business Leadership Award. Several parties, including an outdoor BB“Q” and Blue Ball events, will be held throughout the week.

Equality Forum 2007 culminates with SundayOUT! in Old City Philadelphia with Pennsylvania’s largest GLBT street festival surrounded by art galleries, cafes, shops, festival vendors, and the Independence National Historical Park.
