PHILADELPHIA—The “reigning intellectual of the evangelical movement in the U.S.,” according to TIME Magazine, recently advised Christians to prenatally engineer potentially gay children to be heterosexual if the possibility were to become available. “We would support its use as we should unapologetically support the use of any appropriate means to avoid sexual temptation and the inevitable effects of sin.”

Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director of Equality Forum remarked, “Fetal invasion to alter sexual orientation is reminiscent of the Nazis. It reflects a theocratic and Taliban-like plan that should frighten all Americans.”

Dr. R. Albert Mohler Jr., President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary—one of the world’s largest seminaries and the flagship school of the Southern Baptist Convention—explains on his blog at www.AlbertMohler.com, “Given the consequences of the Fall and the effects of human sin, we should not be surprised that such a causation or link is found. After all, the human genetic structure, along with every other aspect of creation, shows the pernicious effects of the Fall and of God’s judgment.”

Mohler stated, “The general trend of the research points to at least some biological factors behind sexual attraction, gender identity, and sexual orientation.” Understanding the possible implication that sexual orientation is no more a moral issue than left-handedness is, Mohler writes, “This does not alter God’s moral verdict on homosexual sin…” Mohler’s ministry condemns all other forms of research that might impinge upon his understanding of the sanctity of life. “If a biological basis is found, and if a prenatal test is then developed, and if a successful treatment to reverse the sexual orientation to heterosexual is ever developed, we would support its use…”
