GLBT History
Starting in 2006, Equality Forum coordinates GLBT History Month (October) by featuring 31 GLBT leaders. A 30-second video is produced for each leader, which are aired on several television networks and streamed on major Web sites, as well as hundreds of colleges, schools, workplace groups and community centers. Biographies are posted online at glbtHistoryMonth.com.
To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the first organized gay and lesbian civil rights demonstrations, Equality Forum applied for a historical marker from the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. The application was unanimously approved, and the marker placed across from Independence Hall.
FORTUNE 500 Nondiscrimination Project
Starting in 2003, Equality Forum outreached to those companies on the FORTUNE 500 list which did not offer employment protection for gay and lesbian employees. In 2005, Equality Forum partnered with representatives from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and Yale Law School, to expand the project. PROJECT 1138
In 2004, Equality Forum launched an awareness campaign about the 1,138 federal benefits denied to same-sex couples. Couples shared their stories online, and a rally was held during SundayOUT. An archive of this initiative is at: www.equalityforum.com/project1138/ |
